A
tribute site to the short-lived prime time
version of You Can't Do That On
Television that aired in the fall
of 1979 every Tuesday night at 7:30pm on CTV all
across Canada which had some of the same skits
like the dome, living room, dungeon and
classroom. WTYO
was a fast-paced sketch comedy for youth hosted
by Christine McGlade
and linked together from the familiar YCDTOTV
link set. Usually, one or two storylines would
run throughout each episode, most often unfolding
on the link set.
The series also had Laugh In veteran Ruth
Buzzi from Hollywood to play the
female adult roles as Les Lye
played the male adult roles and had some of the
same slapstick humor like the pie in the face and
in a couple of episodes the YCDTOTV traditional
green slime.
They also had a handful of other kids from
YCDTOTV like Kevin Somers,
Jonathan Gebert, Marc
Baillon, Kevin Schenk,
Rodney Helal and Lisa
Ruddy.
Plus for the first half of the episodes there was
a musical guest by a Canadian band in their area
of Ottawa, Ontario performing a top hit song of
theirs.
However the series was losing money afterwards
and couldn't afford to bring any more bands in or
keep the series running due to poor ratings since
it was a bad time slot for a kids show so after
the 12th episode aired in late December of 1979
the plug was pulled from the series.
